Gitega : barely started, the appointment of members of the decentralized commissions of the CENI is already giving rise to protests

The provincial leader of the Sahwanya FRODEBU (Front for Democracy in Burundi) party in Gitega province (central Burundi) deplores that the designation of members of the CEPI (independent provincial electoral commission) did not take into account balances. The Catholic Church was not represented, but the chairperson of the CENI sees no problem with it. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

The absence of a member of the Catholic Church in the CEPI (independent provincial electoral commission) worries the provincial leader of the Sahwanya FRODEBU party, the party of Melchior Ndadaye, the first Hutu democratically elected head of state and assassinated on October 21, 1993, three months after his election.

The chairperson of the CENI (Independent National Electoral Commission) presented a list of members of the independent provincial electoral commission of Gitega province on Wednesday July 10.

According to the provincial leader of the FRODEBU party, the CEPI is unbalanced due to the fact that no member of the Catholic Church has been designated to be part of the team.

For his part, CENI chairperson Prosper Ntahorwamiye, believes that the Catholic Church is represented, especially since he himself is Christian, just like the CENI vice-chairperson.

The Commission in charge of elections is setting up its divisions according to the new administrative division which must be formally effective with the 2025 legislative elections.
