Antoine Nsengiyumva lived in village 7, zone 11 in Nyarugusu refugee camp in Tanzania. His body was found in a tomato field not far from the camp.

He was part of a group of thieves, according to local police.

“He reportedly left with a group of three bandits for stealing in a tomato field, outside the camp. The field owners and the guards would have intercepted this group of bandits. His companions managed to escape and he was caught, beaten to death. He also received several machete,” said the police, discouraging banditry and mob justice in Nyarugusu camp and its surroundings.

“Next to his body, we found a basket filled with freshly picked tomatoes and leeks in this field, which suggests that the track of banditry gone wrong is plausible,” adds the police.

The police arrested all the owners and those assuring guards of the fields surrounding the place where the body was discovered. Anvestigation was started.

The victim is survived by a wife and three children in the Nyarugusu camp which shelters more than 50,000 Burundian refugees.
