Masisi : one person killed and two others injured in a clash between two armed groups

Heavy fighting has been reported since the early morning hours of Thursday in the locality of Kazinga, groupment of Nyamaboko 1, Osso-Banyungu sector in the territory of Masisi between two armed groups namely: APCLS (Alliance of Patriots for a Free and Sovereign Congo) and the Nyatura Abazungu. According to the local civil society, it is APCLS elements led by the self-proclaimed Colonel Kipfumu who allegedly attacked posts of the Nyatura Abazungu militiamen based in Kazinga. A local civil society leader, Théogène Ahadi, reported that “during the fighting two people were seriously injured by bullets while another died on the spot”.

These wounded were quickly taken to a local health facility where they received medical care.

The local civil society explains that “around 11 a.m. the situation returned to a little calm except for cases of looting which were recorded in the center of Kazinga.

Several belongings of the population were taken away by the outlaws”.

Fighting continues to be reported in different areas of Masisi territory in North Kivu in eastern DRC despite the ongoing ceasefire in this region of Congo.
