Gitobe: an advisor to the communal education department locked up in Ngozi prison
Joël Mukezangango, former advisor in charge of human resources at the communal education directorate in the Gitobe commune in Kirundo province (northern Burundi) was transferred on Monday September 25 to the central prison of Ngozi (north). Sources close to the case say he had just spent more than two weeks in the Kirundo prosecutor’s cell after a trial at the provincial high court. Before he was sentenced, the minister for education had proposed to the minister of public service to dismiss him.
According to the content of the letter, Joël Mukezangango is accused of stealing a copy of candidate Éric Ndayishimiye who passed the teacher recruitment test for the 2023-2024 school year. He is also accused of having distributed the pink sheets to certain candidates without the knowledge of the other members of the municipal recruitment commission and of having refused to hand over to his hierarchical superior a copy of the recruitment competition for Éric Ndayishimiye.
According to a source close to the case, Joël Mukezangango, transferred to Ngozi central prison, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.
