A household conflict is behind the incident, according to residents who spoke to SOS Médias Burundi.

The victim, Rémy Manirakiza (63 years) was stabbed last Sunday night. He was evacuated to the provincial hospital the same night, after the incident.

The 60-year-old had not been on good terms with his wife for a long time, according to neighbors.

Rémy Manirakiza was trying to punish one of his children when he was injured by his wife.
