Masisi: gradual return of the Kitshanga residents

The population who had fled the psychosis on Sunday October 15, 2023 in the city of Kitshanga in the Bashali Mokoto groupment, is gradually returning to their homes, our reporter who went to the scene reported. Residents say they have noticed a calm in this part of the territory of Masisi, in North Kivu in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, after a week of unrest. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

Chadrack Paluku is one of the returnees. Our reporter met him at his home this Thursday, October 19, just a few hours after his arrival from Mweso, where he had taken refuge for his safety. He said he returned following a relative calm prevailing in the region, thanks, according to him, to the presence of self-defense groups, which continue to maintain security in the city.

“The day things changed, I took the road to Mweso. There, we had a bad time. So, when I learned that we have a population in Kitshanga, I decided to come home,” he explained.

He also calls on other residents still hanging around Kitshanga and at the MONUSCO and EAC camp to return to their homes.

“I can tell neighbors and other people who have fled the city to come back. We must come and continue our activities because everything is fine here,” he insists.

Note that since the panic that gripped the city of Kitshanga last Sunday, activities have slowed down, suggesting fear among the local population.
