Ngozi : two people killed in one night
Two people were killed during the night from Monday to Tuesday in the districts of Ngozi and Ruhororo (Ngozi province, northern Burundi). For the case of Ngozi district, it concerns a person who was killed by a police officer on duty at a local brewery in Vyerwa.
“Around 2 a.m., two men entered the brewery. They began to target lamps using stones to break them. A police officer on duty shot at them. One of the two men shot was hit. He died on the spot. The other escaped,” say local sources who specify that the identity of the victim is not yet known.
His body was evacuated to the morgue of the provincial hospital.
The second person killed comes from Mubanga village in the district of Ruhororo (same province of Ngozi). He is a sixty-year-old whose decapitated body was discovered on Tuesday morning.
“He was known in the village. Sometimes he was suspected of practicing witchcraft. But we think he was killed in the context of a land conflict,” say residents of Ruhororo.
Police arrested two sons of the victim as part of an investigation.
For the case of Vyerwa, the police have not yet communicated on the fate of the police officer who killed the alleged bandit.
