The man found dead had spent the day with three men from Kizina village on Sunday. His body was discovered at the edge of the irrigation canal of the rice fields of the Randa farm around 3 p.m., according to the local administration in the Mitakataka zone.

“His face showed burns and injuries. He could have been killed elsewhere and his body thrown there afterwards,” thinks an administration official who spoke to SOS Médias Burundi.

Ndiwenumuryango worked as a mason. He had moved to the area to work. This married man was from the Rugazi zone in Rugazi district (same province).

Since then, five men have been arrested by local police. They include two men who work for an artisanal oil extraction factory located very close to where Ndiwenumuryango’s body lay and three Imbonerakure who had spent the day with the deceased.

The first were apprehended on Sunday. The second group was arrested on Monday. All five suspects are detained in the police cell in Bubanza, according to police sources.
