It was on Wednesday morning when Fabiola Nsanzimana’s neighbors found her body.
“She was decapitated,” regret witnesses to the macabre discovery. According to administration authorities, the victim had just won a trial in a land dispute. Her adversaries had sworn to put an end to her, say local sources who add that they had found witchcraft as a pretext to eliminate her. The land which should be paid to the victim has an area of 3 hectares, according to residents.
“Even if she were a witch, she should not be killed. No one has the right to take someone’s life whatever the reason,” residents say.
The district administration says it has launched an investigation parallel to that launched by the police. It believes it could lead to other arrests.
At least three people have been murdered in less than four months following land conflicts in the district of Murwi, security sources say.
