The core of the tragedy is a family conflict. According to the couple’s neighbors, the woman attacked her husband “for selling a bunch of bananas”.

“The quarrels broke out and the woman beat her husband on the head. Vincent Ntirampeba lost consciousness,” testified neighbors who intervened that night.

The man was evacuated to the Musema hospital (same province) the same night. This Thursday, he died en route, while being transferred to one of the health facilities in Bujumbura (economic capital), according to members of his family.

According to our sources, the residents almost took justice into their own hands had it not been for the intervention of the police officers.

A local administrative source confirmed the information. They said a security meeting was planned to remind the spouses to live together peacefully.

Vincent Ntirampeba leaves behind five children and a widow who happens to be his murderer.

The suspect, Béatrice Yamuremye, was arrested by the local police. She is being held in the cell of the Butaganzwa communal police station. She should be tried in flagrante delicto, according to local sources.
