Pascal Baseka finished off his three children with a machete, two girls aged 7 and 6 and a boy who was going to be two and a half years old. This 47-year-old farmer also killed his mother, Marie Ntakamurenga, 69, with a machete.

The Nyabigozi hill chief, Pascal Nyawenda confirmed the facts. He indicates that the motives for this quadruple family murder remain unknown.

According to local sources, Pascal Baseka did not get along with his wife.

A fifth person was admitted to Gisuru hospital after being seriously injured by Baseka. Barthélemy Runinga, a neighbour of the family, was attacked while trying to save the victims.

Pascal Baseka is being held in a police cell in Gisuru. Residents believe he is suffering from “mental problems”. “He had disappeared for at least a week before reappearing”.
