According to witnesses of the macabre discovery, the victim received three stab wounds to the neck and another to the head. She was killed around 1 p.m., coming from her crop field. Four suspects were arrested. They include the victim’s brother-in-law named Méthode, his two wives and their servant. It is the latter who saw Béatrice Nibogora’s body first, before calling the police and the administration.
Méthode is the main suspect. According to police sources, he refused to go and help his sister-in-law while the murder took place not far from his house.
“Méthode had sworn to finish with the victim before this Thursday. He blamed Béatrice for having uprooted beans in his field,” said a police source. According to our sources, the man refused to leave his house and go and see what had happened until the police forced him to. Neighbors who spoke to SOS Médias Burundi, speak of a murder linked to land conflicts. The four suspects are held in the police cell in Kayogoro.
A week ago, a fisherman was found dead at the fishing port of Minago, in the neighboring province of Rumonge (southwest Burundi). Circumstances of his death remain unclear. Two fishermen were arrested. Witnesses to the gruesome discovery say Rukundo’s body was found on his boat. Local sources speak of a dispute between drunken fishermen that went wrong.
