Gitaza : a man arrested for alleged rape of a minor

Gitaza, July 20, 2025 – A 26-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Gitaza, in Muhuta district, Burunga province (southern part of the country). He is suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl.

According to information provided by the police, the suspect was taken to the Gitaza police cell after his arrest. He reportedly attempted to escape by climbing through the ceiling of his cell, but his attempt was quickly thwarted by security officers.

Following this incident, he was transferred the following day, Friday, July 18, to the Rumonge provincial police station cell for security reasons. The victim, an 8th-grade pupil, was referred to the Humura Center in Mutambara (same region), where she is currently receiving medical and psychological care.

The teenager’s relatives are calling for justice, while police authorities assure that an investigation is underway to establish the facts and determine who is responsible.
