Makamba, February 14, 2026 — Residents of the town center of Burunga province, in southern Burundi, awoke in shock this Thursday morning. Around 6:00 a.m., the lifeless body of a man was discovered in the Muyogo River, which separates the Muyogo neighborhood from the town center.

According to local sources close to the discovery site, information confirmed by some administrative officials, the body was floating in a section of the river with very little water. This detail has already fueled numerous questions among the population.

Several residents believe that the low water level makes it difficult to explain how the body could have been carried away by the current. Some are suggesting that the victim was killed elsewhere before being dumped there.

At this stage, the man’s identity has not yet been established, fueling concern and speculation in the Makamba district.

The body has been transferred to the morgue at the Makamba provincial hospital pending investigations and identification procedures.

Faced with this disturbing situation, residents are calling for a thorough investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of this tragedy and determine responsibility. In the town, emotions remain high, and the population is demanding truth and justice.
