Bururi : a land dispute turns to a murder between two brothers

Bururi, August 25, 2026 — A man was killed overnight Monday to Tuesday in Muzima village, in the Muzenga zone of ​​Bururi district, Burunga province, in southern Burundi. The victim, identified as Égide Kwizera, was reportedly killed by his brother following a violent altercation.

According to testimonies gathered from neighbors, the two brothers had a violent confrontation during the night. The precise circumstances of the fight remain to be established.

Local authorities indicate that a land dispute within the family may have been the cause of the argument that escalated into murder.

The alleged perpetrator fled the same night and had not yet been apprehended at the time of this report.

The judicial police went to Muzima village to conduct their initial investigation and continue their inquiries.

The body of Égide Kwizera was taken to a morgue pending burial. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy and establish responsibility.
