Burundi: the company BUCECO revises upwards the price of its cement
Since Monday, the price of cement – BUCECO (Burundi Cement Company) has been revised upwards. It is experiencing an increase of four thousand Burundian francs per bag and per each category. The rise comes after months of shortages of the product and speculation over its price in the market. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
The announcement was made in a press release issued by the management of BUCECO.
“[…] the 50kg bag goes from 24,500 to 28,500 Burundian francs for BUCECO 32.5R cement, while BUCECO 42.5R cement goes from 30 to 34 thousand for the same quantity”, reads a press release signed by the Managing Director of the only company that produces cement locally.
It indicates that the new pricing comes into effect this very Monday.
The cement price hike comes after months of shortages and market price speculation.
This Sunday, the Brarudi (Brewery and lemonade of Burundi) has also revised upwards the price of its products. Residents have denounced a vertiginous rise in a country where purchasing power is significantly low.
