Ngozi : 25 years in prison required against a teacher convicted of raping his pupil

The prosecution in Ngozi (northern Burundi) requested that Ezéchiel Minani be sentenced to a 25 years’ jail and 200,000 Burundi francs in compensation to the victim. A teacher in a secondary school, he is accused of raping his 18-year-old pupil. He was caught in the act of sexually abusing the young girl in a hotel room in the provincial town center. In a flagrance trial held on Tuesday at the Ngozi First Instance Court, the accused, Ezéchiel Minani, teacher and former adviser in charge of socio-cultural affairs to the governor, confessed.

He admitted to having consummated the sexual act with his 18-year-old pupil in a hotel in Ngozi. He justified his act by explaining that it was by mutual consent.

He asked before the bar “the reduction of the sentence up to 2 months of penal servitude”.

The victim’s parents demanded “15 million francs in compensation”.

The case was taken under advisement.
