Burundi : Burundian President pardoned journalist Floriane Irangabiye
This presidential pardon measure was issued on August 14, according to a decree signed by President Évariste Ndayishimiye. Floriane Irangabiye was serving a 10-year jail.

According to the decree, the decision is the result of a request by journalist Floriane Irangabiye. A member of her family told SOS Médias Burundi on Thursday evening that “her lawyers and Floriane had to write to the head of state”.
Floriane Irangabiye had been serving a 10-year prison sentence since January 2, 2023, for, among other things, “attacking the entire national territory”.
The presidential pardon campaign is to be launched on Friday at the central prison of Muramvya (central Burundi) by President Évariste Ndayishimiye, according to sources close to the case.
Our sources say that “if the president respects the advice and proposals of the commission that drew up the list of beneficiaries of this pardon, some political prisoners including the 2015 putschists will also be released”.
Several colleagues in WhatsApp groups and on social media welcomed the measure, also speaking of “good news”.
