Gitega, October 21, 2025 – The body of Denise Bigirimana, mother of eight, was found in a small bush in Nyamagana, sparking shock and questions among residents about the circumstances of her death.

The lifeless body of Denise Bigirimana was discovered on the morning of Monday, October 20, 2025, in a small bush near a trail in Nyamagana village, Bugendana district, Gitega province in central Burundi.

According to witnesses, the gruesome discovery caused deep shock within the local community. Béatrice Gasore, village chief, confirmed the information, stating that the exact circumstances of her death remain unknown. However, she raised the possibility that the victim “fell after consuming a little too much alcohol.”

A theory disputed by residents

This version is rejected by several residents of Nyamagana, who believe that Ms. Bigirimana was actually killed before being abandoned there. They are calling for independent investigations to shed light on this death, which they consider suspicious.

The victim was buried the same day, Monday, October 20, 2025, according to the village chief.

Context : a disturbing series of murders

This tragedy comes barely a week after another murder in the neighboring village of Rushanga. On October 14, 2025, the body of 88-year-old Véronique Mundanikure was found stabbed. The elderly woman was accused of witchcraft, provoking deep outrage in the local community.

The residents of Nyamagana are calling on the authorities to act quickly to identify the perpetrators of these crimes and restore security in the region.
