Cibitoke, November 5, 2025 — A man of about fifty years of age and a boy of about twelve years of age were found dead on Wednesday, November 5, on the banks of the Nyamagana River, in Nyamagana village, in the Cibitoke zone and district, in western Burundi. Both bodies bore multiple injuries, suggesting a double homicide.

The events took place around 2 p.m. Residents in the area, including artisanal gold miners, spotted a large fly buzzing around the bushes near the river. Intrigued, they approached and discovered the bodies in a small thicket by the water’s edge.

Alerted, the residents immediately informed the local authorities and the police. Initial findings indicated that the victims had several deep wounds, likely inflicted by bladed weapons. Their identities were unknown at the time of discovery.

The bodies were transported to the morgue at Cibitoke Hospital for further examination.

Appeal for witnesses and public concern

The administration authorities of the Cibitoke zone are urging families who have recently lost a loved one to come forward for identification, so that the victims can receive a dignified funeral. They are also calling on the public to cooperate with the police to facilitate the investigation.

However, concern is growing among the residents : this is not the first time bodies have been discovered in this area. Since the beginning of the year, at least seven bodies have been found, but the perpetrators of these crimes have not been identified.

Residents are calling for thorough investigations so that those responsible are found and brought to justice.
