Ernest Kwizera, an Imbonerakure (member of the CNDD-FDD youth league) was injured on Thursday by Innocent Ndayisenga, also a member of the same league. A land dispute is said to be at the origin of the incident, according to local sources.

“Ernest Kwizera tried to prevent Ndayisenga from destroying a potato field belonging to his brother. But he was attacked and injured with a machete in the head and face”, say witnesses.

The injured person was evacuated to a nearby medical facility.

The assailant was arrested by the police. He is held at the district police station in Rutovu.

The potato field is said to be on a conflicting ground.
