Nyabitsinda: a CNL headquarters destroyed and burned
A CNL party headquarters on Nyaruganda hill was destroyed and burned during the night of 19 January. It is in the commune of Nyabitsinda (province of Ruyigi, eastern Burundi). The perpetrators of the act have not been identified, but the leaders of the first opposition political formation in Burundi suspect Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league).
The communal administrator accuses the CNL of having ordered the destruction of its premises. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
According to witnesses, the premises were first ransacked.
“The incident took place at night. They first demolished our office before burning it. We suspect Imbonerakure who are on night patrols. No one else circulates here during the night”, accuses Barthélémy Nzirubusa, local responsible of CNL. He regrets that no investigation has been opened.
The communal administrator accuses the CNL of having ordered the destruction of its own premises to tarnish the image of the Imbonerakure.
“It’s deplorable that party offices are covered with straw. It’s shameful and it dishonors our commune,” he said.
