The teacher was killed by gunmen. She was a few meters from her home when she was attacked.
“She had a shop not far from the provincial office of the post office. Perpetrators of the murder undoubtedly watched her movements. They waited for her a few meters from her house and shot her”, testified to SOS Médias Burundi a police source that specifies that she died on the spot.
The victim is a sister of Cyriaque Nshimirimana, second vice-president of the upper house of the Burundian parliament. No link has been established for the moment between his assassination and the function of her brother.
Murder weapon found
The murder weapon has been found. It was a rifle that had been stolen from a policeman in the same neighborhood recently, police sources confirmed to our editorial staff.
The same night, a group of three bandits, all armed with AK-47s, dressed in long black jackets attacked the sports center called Bien-Etre à Tout Age (BETA) located at Sanzu 2. They immobilized the staff from the center and stole five cell phones as well as a sum of money, the amount of which is not yet known. They then locked all the staff inside the center.
“They were released on Thursday morning by passers-by”, say witnesses.
Antoinette Semugara, district administrator of Ruyigi said that motives for the murder of Emmanuella Niragira are not yet known.
“She cohabited peacefully with her neighbours”, she reassured. So far, no suspects have been apprehended in either case.
