Gitega : a secondary school teacher found dead, clubbed to death
Gérard Mbazumutima, 47 years old, a historian by training and teacher at Sainte Thérèse de Mushasha secondary school in Gitega (political capital) was killed with clubs by people not yet identified. The incident took place around 9 p.m. on the night of this Saturday, in the village of rural Nyabututsi in the district of Gitega. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
The body of the victim was found outside the gate of his home, according to witnesses. Police sources confirm this.
“He had head injuries. Blood was also found at the crime scene”, said a witness on the spot.
Gérard Mbazumutima was returning from a bistro not far from his residence when he was killed.
This information is confirmed by Philbert Nshimirimana, a local elected official from rural Nyabututsi village who says “I don’t know the motives for the murder”.
Three people, including the victim’s watchman, were arrested and then taken to the cells of the provincial police station in Gitega. Local police say they have launched an investigation.
On March 8, Jacqueline Ndarihoranye was killed with a grenade, accused of witchcraft in the same village in rural Nyabututsi. Five persons, including the village manager, were arrested and detained.
