Burundi: four communal administrators suspended from their duties
Three communal leaders were suspended by the same ministerial order signed by the interior minister on Monday August 28. They are accused, among other things, of mismanagement public funds, lack of supervision of the population and insubordination. The fourth suffered the same fate on August 10. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
They are the administrators of Mukaza communes in the commercial city of Bujumbura, Kayanza in Kayanza province (north), Busoni in Kirundo province (north) and Mabayi in Cibitoke province (north-west).
Rénovat Sindayihebura, former leader of the urban commune of Mukaza, had been cited in a fraud of fifteen tons of sugar which were diverted as it was intended for that commune. High authorities, including the speaker of the Burundian senate, had demanded his suspension.
The ministerial order issued this Monday, August 28 accuses Sindayihebura to have not monitored the marketing of basic necessities intended for the population of his constituency.
The administrator of Kayanza commune, Gilbert Nyandwi, is accused of insubordination, mismanagement of public funds and lack of supervision of the population.
Dismas Nsavyimana, administrator of Busoni commune was also quoted in a case of diversion of sugar intended for the population of his commune.
On August 10 still, the interior minister suspended Nicodème Ndahabonyimana from his duties as Mabayi communal administrator. He was arrested the same day, suspected of collaborating with the Rwandan militiamen of the FLN group allegedly involved in attacks in Cibitoke province. The charges containing in the minister’s order against him are “notorious weakness in the supervision of the population, economic sabotage and insubordination”.
Brief detention of the former Busoni administrator
This Monday, the former administrator of Busoni was arrested by the police. He spent a night in an SNR (National Intelligence Service) cell in Ngozi (north) before being released on Tuesday morning. Police sources say the investigation is still on.
Minister Martin Niteretse orders the provincial governors and the mayor of Bujumbura town to immediately implement these orders.
