Busoni : the former district administrator and three members of the district council in detention
The former administrator of the district of Busoni, in the province of Kirundo (northern Burundi) as well as three other members of the district council of this constituency have been in detention since Tuesday, September 5. According to our sources with the provincial authorities of Kirundo, the former administrator of Busoni, Dismas Nsavyimana was urgently called to the provincial office of the CNDD-FDD (the ruling party) for questioning.
It was in connection with a writing that circulated among the members of the district council.
The note concerned the holding of an extraordinary meeting of the said council – a meeting aimed at the return of the former administrator at the top of the district. Mr. Nsavyimana was recently suspended by the Minister of the Interior for embezzlement of sugar in the district of Busoni.
Reports from CNDD-FDD members indicate that three members of the Busoni district council had already signed the note and were trying to convince the others to sign.
Imprisonment of Dismas Nsavyimana and three other members of the district council
Our sources say that Dismas Nsavyimana was arrested on Monday and jailed in the Kirundo prosecution cell. The next day, three members of the district council who were following him in his process joined him.
From the prosecution cell to Ngozi Central Prison
The four men were taken to the central prison of Ngozi (neighboring province) on Tuesday September 26, 2023.
They are said to have gone through the office of the Intelligence Service where they were questioned for a few hours, according to sources familiar with the matter.
