Cibitoke : three corpses discovered in Buganda and Bukinanyana
Three bodies were discovered on Monday morning in the districts of Buganda and Bukinanyana in Cibitoke province (northwest Burundi). The circumstances in which two people died are not yet known. The third victim was decapitated by her attackers who even raped her. Police apprehended four suspects in the Bukinanyana case. All are Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league). For the case of Buganda, these are two bodies found in Ruhagarika village.
“We discovered these two corpses on the banks of the river Rusizi (separating Burundi and the DRC). We believe that the victims drowned in the river before their bodies were transported here,” responded a local elected official contacted who mentions a significant increase in the flow of the Rusizi in recent times.
The two bodies have not been identified.
In Bukinanyana, the body of Emelyne Nishimwe, 17 years old, was found not far from a hotel in the town of Myave.
“She was decapitated after being sexually assaulted by her tormentors,” say police sources.
The district administrator confirms this information and states that “I gave the order to bury her body after looking for her head, in vain”.
Four members of the ruling party’s youth league were arrested by police on orders from the local administration as part of an ongoing investigation.
