Rumonge : more than 50 pupils did not take the national test following unwanted pregnancies
At least 82 pupils did not appear to take the national test, 2023-2024 edition in Rumonge province (southwest Burundi). Most of those absent are girls.

Of the 82 absentees recorded, 53 are girls, according to provincial education officials in Rumonge.
They explain that the high rate of female absentees is due to the phenomenon of unwanted pregnancies.
“Many girls are pregnant. They then found themselves in a situation incompatible with a school program. It’s a shame,” they regret.
The National test, 2023-2024 edition closed on Thursday across the country. It concerned the finalist pupils of the first fundamental cycle in the 9th year.
The Rumonge province had more than 5000 candidates including 3000 girls.
