Three people, all from the same family, were killed during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in the Twaha notability, Ngangi 2 village, Munigi groupment, Nyiragongo territory north of Goma, capital of the North Kivu province.
“It was around 1:30 a.m. that these bandits broke into the victims’ house where they took a large sum of money before killing the father of the family, his little sister and his wife. They also injured the couple’s eldest son,” residents say.
This tragedy, described as “too much”, shocked the population that took to the streets to barricade roads.
“We fear there may be other victims. “Let investigations be carried out quickly to arrest the perpetrators of this barbarity,” said Jackson Kitambala, chairperson of the Munigi Local Youth Council.
Early on Wednesday morning, angry young people barricaded several main arteries in some neighborhoods in the northern part of Goma and the southern part of Nyiragongo territory in an effort not only to condemn the rise in crime in the two entities, but also to express their despair regarding the security management by the authorities of the state of siege.
The demonstrators are demanding credible investigations in order to get their hands on the perpetrators of insecurity in the area.
