The hills of Kivumu, Kibezi, Donge-Burasira, Mpota and Taba have been the most affected.
“All the fields of corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, bananas and beans have been destroyed,” report residents of Mugamba.
They indicate that the rains that caused this damage were mixed with hail and strong winds. Several households say all their fields have been destroyed by the rains. “Even fodder plants have been washed away by the runoff waters.”
Affected families are asking for help “in food and seeds.”
The local administration acknowledges the seriousness of the situation. It says it plans to draw up a report on the damage and losses caused by the rains to submit to high-ranking authorities. In the meantime, it is calling on residents in less affected areas to “help families in need.”
The torrential rains in question hit Mugamba on Friday. But until Saturday evening, hail was still visible on the hills, according to local sources.
