Kayanza : a man found dead, an investigation underway

A 40-year-old man was found dead on Wednesday morning in Mwendo village, in Kayanza province. Circumstances of his death remain unclear, but suspicions of theft followed by murder are emerging. The police have launched an investigation.

The lifeless body of Georges Nshimirimana, aged 40, was discovered early on Wednesday morning in Mwendo village, in Kayanza district and province, in northern Burundi.

According to witnesses, it was morning passers-by who made the macabre discovery. The body was lying near the road. Alerted, local administration and police authorities immediately went to the scene.

Circumstances of his death remain unknown. “There is no evidence at this time to identify perpetrators or determine exact circumstances of the death,” said the village chief of Mwendo.

According to residents, the previous evening, Georges Nshimirimana was seen with friends in a bar in Rwesero. Some relatives suspect that he was the victim of a robbery followed by murder. “He had a large sum of money on him, but when the body was discovered, it had disappeared,” they said.

His family is calling for a thorough investigation to be launched to find those responsible for this crime. For its part, the police say they have already begun investigations.
