SOS Médias Burundi
Cibitoke, November 23, 2025- A teacher of the District Technical School (LTC) of Cibitoke was arrested on Saturday, November 22 in the district of Cibitoke, in the province of Bujumbura, in northwest Burundi. He was surprised in a hotel room in the company of an end-of-cycle pupil he was tutoring. The affair provoked intense indignation among parents and defenders of women’s and children’s rights.
Jean Bosco Bukuru, professor at LTC Cibitoke, has been detained since Saturday by the local police. According to concordant sources, he was arrested around noon at Le Confort hotel, located near the Cibitoke hospital, while he was there with a final year pupil of the Industrial Electricity section.
According to the information gathered, the girl, from Bujumbura, the commercial capital, where she lives with her parents, would have been found sick with her teacher at the time of the police intervention. The operation was conducted by a police officer dispatched from Bujumbura, supported by agents from the Cibitoke police station.
Warned, the parents of the young girl immediately went on the spot before taking her to the hospital for medical examinations, particularly in order to detect possible sexually transmitted infections and to ensure psychological care.
Indignation and appeals to a firm judicial response
Parents, women’s and children’s rights organizations denounce an “intolerable” behavior on the part of an educator. They evoke recurrent cases of teachers exploiting their position to abuse vulnerable pupils, and demand exemplary sanctions to prevent any recurrence.
The administrator of Cibitoke district, Eloge Najeneza, went to the scene accompanied by police officers. He called for a thorough investigation so that any person found guilty would answer for their actions before the competent courts, particularly in the context of flagrante delicto trials.
