Mugina : a 48-year-old man found dead in a ditch in Nyempundu

Mugina, February 20, 2026 – The lifeless body of a man known as Ciza, aged 48 years, was discovered Thursday morning in a ditch in Nyempundu village, Nyamakarabo zone, in Mugina district, Bujumbura province (western Burundi). Administrative authorities and the family suspect homicide.

A suspected crime after an evening with friends

According to information gathered from administrative sources, family members, and neighbors, the victim left his home on the evening of Wednesday, February 18. He reportedly spent several hours with acquaintances, having drinks in the Gikomero zone, before disappearing.

According to initial reports, Ciza was violently attacked by malicious individuals. He was reportedly struck on the head with blunt objects while trying to defend himself. His body was found the following morning in a local ditch, causing shock and grief within the community.

The deceased’s family suspects acquaintances, claiming he was killed by people with whom he had been drinking that evening. They are calling on the judicial authorities to act swiftly so that the alleged perpetrators can be identified, arrested, and brought to justice.

Appeal for calm from authorities

The administrator of Mugina district, Anicet Saidi, called on the population to remain calm and refrain from any acts of revenge while awaiting the results of the ongoing investigations being conducted by the relevant authorities.

The victim was buried the same day in the local cemetery of Mugina.
