A witness specifies that the woman and the child were initially admitted to the Kayongozi health center for first aid. Anne Nzeyimana was transferred to Ruyigi hospital in the provincial capital, as the health services in Kayongozi were unable to treat her.

Kayongozi zone chief Jean Bosco Ndayisaba says that the author of this barbarism has been identified.

He was apprehended on Tuesday evening on the hill of Gashurushuru in the commune of Butezi (same province).

For the moment, the suspect is incarcerated in the police cell of the Kayongozi zone. He should be tried in a swift trial.

Mr. Ndayisaba indicates that the motives behind the act would be linked to witchcraft and asks the population to avoid mob justice.
