Beni (DRC): nearly twenty civilians killed in one week

Rebel attacks have been reported in the Beni sector in the North Kivu province (eastern DRC), leaving around twenty victims, in less than a week. Local civil society reports at least eighteen civilians killed and injured. The perpetrators of the carnage were identified as elements of the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) gunmen. The victims are from the Bambuba-Kisiki groupment Beni-Mbau sector. It is in the territory of Beni, according to Patrick Musubao president of the “Forces vives” of the Bambuba-Kisiki groupment.

“During the night of Sunday, the attackers killed five civilians in Maimoya, victims added to several others during the same week,” he told the press.

He specified a toll of eighteen people killed in less than a week in the villages of Eringeti, Opira, Kokola and Maimoya.

Alongside the deaths, civil society also deplores seven people kidnapped.

Activists report that the perpetrators of the carnage are ADF fighters.

According to our sources, many residents have fled the areas attacked in Beni since last week.

“The attacks have become commonplace despite the Congolese government maintaining a state of siege,” denounces Ngahangondi Jean-Paul, one of the political actors in the Beni region.
