Kabarore : two Imbonerakure killed a young man who tried to go to Rwanda
Philippe Nsabimana, 22 years old, was killed on Friday around 2 p.m. The crime took place in the town of Ryamukona overlooking the river Kanyaru which separates the two sister nations of the Great Lakes of Africa. It is in the district of Kabarore in the province of Kayanza (northern Burundi). Witnesses claim that the young man was murdered by two Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league) who were patrolling the area. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
The victim wanted to go to a market located in Iviro on the Rwandan territory. He was caught by two members of the ruling party’s youth league who killed him on the spot. One of the Imbonerakure was recognized, according to our sources. This is Victor Niyukuri.
“These Imbonerakure were keeping watch in the locality. They caught this young man while he was going to the small market of Iviro, on the Rwandan side. He was violently beaten up. His assassins also plunged a knife into his one of his ears,” said a witness. According to this witness, Philippe Nsabimana tried to defend himself, in vain.
“He died on the spot and his body was thrown into the river Kanyaru,” residents say.
A person who was not far from the crime scene went to alert local men. They arrived in large numbers. Witnesses indicate that the two Imbonerakure escaped being lynched.
“They were going to lynch Victor and his friend had it not been for the intervention of the police,” say witnesses who add that “the crowd had already started to beat them up.”
The police arrested the two members of the CNDD-FDD youth league. In the meantime, the body of Philippe Nsabimana was recovered and transferred to the Ryamukona health center. His family demands a fair trial.
