Bukinanyana : nearly thirty bodies wearing FARDC uniforms discovered in Kibira
At least 32 bodies of men wearing the uniform of the Congolese army, the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) were discovered in the Kibira natural reserve, on the Bukinanyana district side in Cibitoke province (northwest Burundi). It is forest rangers who found these corpses over a period of no more than a month. The local administration neither denies nor confirms this information. INFO SOS Médias Burundi
The 32 bodies seen by forest rangers were spotted on two hills : Nderama and Kiruhura. It is about ten kilometers from the border with Rwanda. So far, all our sources explain that it is very difficult to “specify the identity of these armed men”. But a military source says that these are the bodies of Rwandan rebels installed in this immense natural forest on the border with neighboring Rwanda.
“The fighting between the soldiers of the FDNB (Burundi National Defense Force) and these Rwandan rebels in recent times has caused several deaths on the latter’s side,” indicates a military source that testified on condition of anonymity.
Other local sources suggest that these bodies are of men who were killed during futile incursion attempts into Rwanda. Kibira is considered their rear base.
According to independent sources, it is this track that holds the most.
“These days, these Rwandan rebels are not even hiding, they are seen everywhere in the Ndora market stocking up on food,” they say.
Border residents of Kibira say they are afraid, fearing reprisals.
Contacted on this matter, the district administrator of Bukinanyana remains evasive. He neither confirms nor denies this information.
Christian Nkurikiye nevertheless confirms that unidentified corpses are found from time to time inside this immense natural forest. The military officials who cover the districts of Mabayi and Bukinanyana, neighboring Kibira, briefly responded that “all our men are in full force, no one is missing.”
