Rumonge: death of a man

The body of Venant Niyongabo (39 years ) was seen at the CRC (Community Recreation Center), a bar near the Birimba neighborhood, in the provincial capital of Rumonge (southwestern Burundi) this Monday morning. Local police arrested two women and hold them at the provincial police station.

According to his family, Venant Niyongabo was last seen on Sunday evening. He told his wife he was going to the market to buy food for his children.

“Around 8 p.m., his wife called him. His phone was ringing, but no one picked up,” say those close to him.

It was around 3 a.m. that a police officer called his wife to tell her the bad news.

According to bar employees, the man was with two women with whom he was sharing a drink. The family of the deceased demands an independent investigation.

Local police confirmed Niyongabo’s death adding having put hands on two women who are now detained at the provincial police station “while awaiting the result of the investigation”.

Venant Niyongabo lived in the town of Rumonge. He leaves behind a widow and 7 children.
