Bujumbura : severe lack of water in northern neighborhoods

Recently, parts of Bujumbura (commercial ĺcity) were under water, currently neighborhoods without a drop in the taps for weeks….It seems that if this city is not suffering from flooding, it must endure the lack of water. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

However, it was a great sigh of relief when the minister in charge of water resources in the Senate on June 19 pompously announced the imminent arrival of many pipes to serve the northern neighborhoods of the commercial capital from nearby catchment points already set up.

And so all eyes turn to Regideso, the state company in charge of distributing water and electricity, for implementation.

But some two months later, at the beginning of August, the population is still waiting for water in the taps.

“In principle, almost everywhere else on earth, even in desert regions, when you turn the head of a tap, water flows, except in our neighborhoods in Bujumbura. Sometimes, we wonder which sin we have committed for this job, this ordeal that is imposed on us. It is unbelievable that residents of a city like Bujumbura can spend consecutive weeks without water,” lament city dwellers who confided in SOS Médias Burundi.

Preparing meals is becoming a headache, cleanliness of the body and clothes is no longer a priority, regret mothers.

As for houses with indoor sanitary facilities, we dare not talk about them… because they end up giving off nauseating odors.

This situation is becoming very critical and worrying with the announced epidemic of monkeypox, a disease for which hygiene rules must be strictly observed to prevent it.

Other regions of Burundi, including the northwest and southwest, already threatened by cholera, are also facing this problem.
