Bururi : three judges released
Léonard Nizigiyimana, Irène Mukeshimana and Antoine Ngendakumana, three judges of the First Instance Court of Bururi (southern Burundi) were released by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. They had just spent more than a year in prison.

The three judges were reunited with their families on Tuesday evening, SOS Médias Burundi learned. They had been detained at Bururi Central Prison since September 2023.
As a reminder, these judges were prosecuted for having granted provisional release to people accused of machete attacks against civilian populations in the town center of Bururi and its surroundings.
