Bujumbura : President Neva wants to hang on
A round table of development partners and foreign investors has been held in Bujumbura, the commercial city of Burundi, since Thursday. The objective is to mobilize funding for the implementation of the vision of the Burundian government – emerging country in 2040 and developed in 2060. But this vision requires peace and security as well as the fight against corruption, according to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“We organized this roundtable to remind you that choosing to invest in Burundi is an opportunity to increase the profits from your industries”, President Neva tried to persuade his guests.
He said that if for example the agricultural sector is strengthened with developed means of processing and preserving crops, Burundi will undoubtedly become the granary that feeds the entire African continent.
Speaking in turn, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, invoked the issues of peace and security and the fight against corruption as prerequisites to reassure economic operators in a country.
“Africa needs development, needs funds. But we must fight corruption, strengthen peace and security to attract investors. They will not settle in a country if they are not going to win,” he insisted. He also recalled that the country cannot move forward without collaboration with the private sector and civil society organizations.
The delegations present at this roundtable of investors which is being held from December 5 to 6 in the commercial capital Bujumbura come from African countries, Europe and the United States among others.
