The bodies of the two spouses were found by residents Saturday at nightfall after reportedly being killed by gunmen.

The two bodies were discovered in the locality of Myave, Ndora zone in the commune of Bukinanyana, Cibitoke province, Northwestern Burundi. They were found by residents looking for wild vegetables and fruits this December 7.

“The two spouses were tied up their bodies hung from a tree with ropes,” say eyewitnesses of the double macabre discovery.

After being informed, the communal administrator of Bukinanyana sent the Ndora chief zone to the scene. The latter was accompanied by Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league).

Initial investigations show that the couple was killed by gunmen based in this immense natural forest that extends into neighboring Rwanda.

At least five people died in the same circumstances in a period not exceeding three months, according to Christian Nkurikiye, the communal administrator of Bukinanyana who asks his people to avoid traveling to the Kibira nature reserve. The two bodies were buried the same day.
