A corpse of a man who could not be identified was discovered on Thursday in the Rango neighborhood. It is in the city of Gitega, the political capital of Burundi.
Local police say that the decomposing body was buried that same Thursday. They announced the launch of an investigation.
The body brings to eight the number of bodies discovered in Gitega province since last November. In its recent report, the Iteka League spoke of a worrying situation, with Gitega province increasingly becoming a cemetery, rivaling that of Cibitoke in the northwest of the country in particular.
The local administration did not want to comment. But residents speak of people killed elsewhere before their bodies were dumped in the wild far from the places where the assassinations were committed to “cover their tracks”.
