Rugombo: discovery of a man’s body

A man’s body was discovered this Tuesday late afternoon in the locality of Mparambo 1 in the commune of Rugombo in the province of Cibitoke (Northwestern Burundi). The communal administration says he should be buried this Wednesday.

Witnesses to the macabre discovery speak of a murder. They think that this man was killed elsewhere before his body was dumped there.

The man was in his thirties, according to our sources, and it was apparently easy to see his clothing.

“The corpse was tied to a tree with a rope. It was already decomposing when we found it,” indicate eyewitnesses to the macabre discovery.

Residents say they are surprised that macabre discoveries often occur in an area where night patrols by the Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league) are permanent. They are asking the courts to conduct an independent investigation.

Gilbert Manirakiza, communal administrator of Rugombo, confirmed this macabre discovery to SOS Médias Burundi. He says that the body, which has not been identified, should be buried this Wednesday.
