According to a local source, this peaceful citizen was attacked while he was on his way to a morning mass.
“On the way, a gang of criminals armed with machetes seriously injured him in the head and neck. In critical condition, the victim was immediately evacuated to Cibitoke hospital and then transferred directly to the hospital in the commercial capital Bujumbura,” say local residents. The man is receiving intensive care.
Members of the CNDD-FDD youth league, the Imbonerakure, are suspected of being behind this attack. “They are the only ones patrolling the area.”
The administrator of Rugombo confirms all this information but refuses to take responsibility for the youth of the ruling party. Gilbert Manirakiza reassures his subjects and talks about launching a police investigation.
