According to the public prosecutor, the perpetrator had obtained a job of painting the shop belonging to the victim’s parents located in the city of Rumonge (southwest Burundi) last Monday.

When the girl was returning from nursery school, the young man found the victim at home. He took her to this shop to commit the crime.

According to neighbours, the victim’s parents were sick the day their little girl was attacked and had gone to the hospital. They alerted the police the following day. The attacker was arrested the same Tuesday.

Admitted crime

Asmani Nsengiyumva confessed to having acted under the instructions of a witch doctor who had reassured him that he would have a lot of wealth if he raped a minor, still a virgin.
