Local administration authorities have stated that the two individuals refused to register as part of a census underway in Burundi.
In several provinces, followers of different sects have refused to answer questions from census agents who referred to “diabolical actions”. In the majority of cases, the local administration forced them to register.
Since August 16, a census of the population, habitat, agriculture and livestock has been taking place in the small East African nation.
This census, which should end on Sunday, has been extended by five days, announced Sunday Nicolas Ndayishimiye, the president of the Central Bureau in charge of the census (BCR). He explained that the rate already reached of enumeration is 98.4%. The province that comes first is Buhumuza with a participation rate of 99.7%, that of Bujumbura being in last position with 96.3%.
