Rumonge, October 10, 2025 – The lifeless body of a young man, whose identity remains unknown, was discovered on Thursday morning in Mwange village, in the Kizuka zone of Rumonge district, Burunga province, southern Burundi.
According to the Mwange village chief and several witnesses on the spot, the circumstances of the death suggest a murder. The victim was reportedly killed in the Dama River Valley before her body was transported and dumped in a roadside gutter.
The victim’s arms were bound with a rope, a detail that reinforces the hypothesis of a premeditated criminal act. No suspects have been identified or arrested yet.
A judicial police officer (OPJ) attended the scene to make the report. According to the Rumonge Public Security Police, the body was transferred to the Rumonge Hospital morgue. A judicial investigation has been opened to identify the perpetrators.
An increasingly worrying security climate in Rumonge
This tragedy comes at a time when the district of Rumonge has been experiencing a series of disturbing incidents. With two bodies discovered in less than 48 hours, the security situation in this region of Burunga province is causing serious concern.
Residents of the Mwange and Mutambara villages are calling on the authorities and demanding an urgent strengthening of security measures, as well as thorough investigations to find those responsible for these criminal acts.
