Kayanza : three arrests after the brutal slaughter of a man in dusasa

Kayanza, November 20, 2025 – Three people have been arrested following a brutal murder that occurred on the evening of November 16, 2025, in Dusasa village, Rugazi zone, Kayanza district, in Butanyerera province, northern Burundi. A man was found with his throat slit in the middle of the night, in a scene that shocked the community.

An Imbonerakure killed in a bar room

According to initial reports, Silas Kayiranga, 37 years old, allegedly caught his wife, Jeannette Mukamuzima, 30 yers old, in a bar room with Vincent Sibomana, 39 years old, described by several sources as a member of the CNDD-FDD youth wing, the Imbonerakure.

The discovery sparked a violent altercation.
In the ensuing outburst, Vincent Sibomana was beheaded and died instantly. Witnesses described the scene as “horrific.”

A night of tension : residents ready to take the law into their own hands

Alerted by the shouts, residents flocked to the bar. The anger was so intense that some in the crowd were already attempting to take the law into their own hands. The swift intervention of the police and local authorities was necessary to prevent a lynching and keep the situation from escalating further.

Three people arrested

Police have arrested :

Silas Kayiranga, considered the main perpetrator;

Jeannette Mukamuzima, implicated in the incident;

Paul Bahigirora, cited for alleged involvement in the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

All three have been placed in the custody of the justice system.

A case now in the hands of the courts

Authorities indicate that the case has been transferred to the competent judicial bodies.

The residents of Dusasa, still in shock, demand that “the whole truth be told” and that responsibilities be clearly established.
