Gitega : a father and son arrested for murder in Burunga, the population demands justice

Gitega, December 30, 2025 – Two people, Jean Marie Ndikuriyo and his son Bienvenu Bikorimana, are currently held in the Gitega police station in the political capital, suspected of involvement in a murder that occurred in Burunga province, in the south of the country.
According to a witness, the suspects were apprehended on Friday, December 26, 2025, at their home in Kampezi village, Mahwa zone, Matana district. The arrest was carried out by members of the joint security committees, mostly composed of young members of the Imbonerakure league, affiliated with the CNDD-FDD, the ruling party, in coordination with local administrative officials.
The events date back to the night of Wednesday, December 24, 2025, when Jean Marie Ndikuriyo and his son allegedly broke into the residence of Eric Nifasha, whom they seriously injured, before stealing a solar panel, a battery, and a window.
This information is confirmed by Audace Havyarimana, chief of Kampezi village, who specifies that the victim, severely wounded by a machete, was taken to Rutovu Hospital, where he died on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
According to the village chief, the suspects were transferred on Monday, December 29, 2025, to the cells of the Gitega Provincial Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.
Faced with this situation, the residents of Kampezi village are demanding that Jean Marie Ndikuriyo and his son be brought to justice to answer for the acts they are accused of.
